AI try-on imageIn short
Since 1 October 2024, selling on eBay has been free for UK-based private sellers in all categories except vehicles. According to eBay you get 300 free listings a month, then 35p per listing; fees apply for optional upgrades and an international fee of 3% when the item goes abroad (as of September 2026). Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee on items from private sellers. Our recommendation: eBay for sought-after brands, vintage, collectors’ pieces and menswear, and as an auction for items in high demand.

How do you list clothes on eBay?
Fill in the item specifics.
Brand, size, colour, material, style. Our recommendation: fill in everything you know. The more complete, the fewer questions.
Upload photos.
eBay lets you add up to 24. First photo: the whole item against a calm background. Then the back, label, details and flaws.
Give measurements.
Chest, length, sleeves, in centimetres or inches. That answers the most common questions in advance.
Choose the condition.
Pick the condition that really fits and describe it precisely in the text.
Set the postage.
The buyer pays the postage together with the item price. With eBay’s Simple Delivery you get prepaid labels and QR codes. Our recommendation: fair postage costs.
Frequently asked questions
Does selling on eBay cost private sellers anything?
Not for UK-based private sellers: no final value fees. Fees can apply for optional upgrades, items sent abroad (3%) and listings beyond the 300 free ones a month (as of September 2026). Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee on items from private sellers.
Since when has eBay been free for private sellers?
eBay says selling has been free for UK-based private sellers since 1 October 2024, in all categories except vehicles.
Is eBay or Vinted better for clothes?
Our recommendation: Vinted for most everyday fashion, eBay often for vintage, sought-after brands and menswear. Comparison in Vinted, Depop or eBay.
Does eBay report sales to HMRC?
Yes, if you have 30 or more sales or more than €2,000 (about £1,700) in a calendar year on the platform. The UK reporting rules for digital platforms apply to every platform, not just Vinted. Being reported is not a tax bill. More in Vinted and tax in the UK.
