GUIDE · PRICE

Finding the right price for second-hand clothes.

Why listed prices lie and sold prices tell the truth.

In short

The best guide is sold listings, not current ones, of the same item in similar condition. Leave a little room for offers, and remember that on Vinted the buyer pays the Vinted fee and the postage on top. List seasonal items shortly before the season starts.

How do you find the right price?

  1. Search for the same item.

Brand, type, size. The more precise, the better the comparison.

  2. Look at what sold.

On eBay, completed listings show items that ended sold in the previous 90 days. When you list, eBay also suggests a price based on recently sold, similar items.

  3. Factor in condition.

New with tags fetches more than “good”. Be honest with yourself.

  4. Think of the total price.

On Vinted the buyer also pays the Vinted fee, according to Vinted’s price list usually 3% to 8% of the price plus £0.30 to £0.80 (as of 8 October 2026), and the postage.

  5. Leave room.

On eBay there is Best Offer, and on Vinted you can send an offer to members who favourite your item or ask about it. A small buffer makes it easier to say yes.

What matters for the price, item by item?

ItemWhat mattersTip
Fast-fashion basicsCompare with the current new price: if the same piece is regularly on sale new for little more, a high second-hand price won’t sellBetter sold as a bundle
Coats and jacketsSeason: compare sold listings from the same time of yearList in autumn, not in spring
Premium brandsProve it’s genuine: label, logo, receiptShow label and authenticity
New with tagsCompare with sold listings in the same conditionPhotograph the tag

We don’t give percentages of the new price because there is no reliable public figure for that. Sold listings of the same item are the better guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much will I get for second-hand clothes?

That depends a lot on brand, condition and season. Sold listings of the same item are the best guide.

Should I leave room for offers?

Yes, a little. On eBay there is Best Offer, and on Vinted you can send an offer yourself to people who are interested. A small buffer is enough.

When should I lower the price?

When an item has hardly any favourites after two or three weeks and the cover photo and title are already right. On Vinted, your followers are notified when you lower a price.

Is a bundle price worth it?

For cheap basics and children’s clothes, yes. A bundle sells more easily than ten single items.
